The Ultimate Australian
Luxury & Wellness Roadtrip
Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach puts you at the heart of Broadbeach and mere steps from the ocean (5 minute walk to be exact). Luxurious accommodations, and availability of a spa, multiple restaurants, tennis courts, pool, gym, and more. I went for sunrise every morning to the beach and it was always stunning. The balcony in the hotel was also fabulous and you have a free breakfast that was serviced very well. This was very relaxing in a busier area !
Eden Health Retreat was an elite retreat I felt so blessed to spend 3 nights at. Full of fitness classes, mindfulness practices, hikes, healthy meals all day by the on site chefs, waterfalls nearby, rooms and baths and spa services that I will never forget. It would be a true joy to be welcomed back here. I had a beautiful spa treatment and even had a great session with a Kinesiologist. I’ve never been to anything like this retreat and I would love to do one of their longer stays to truly dive even deeper with myself and the community and land here.
IT IS SPECIAL. Highly Recommend.
Laurina Estate was a darling Bed and Breakfast, located in Forster NSW. Two wonderful bedrooms and a huge country retreat waiting for you. So much to see and do around you. An outdoor bath that is everyones DREAM. Their 3 night package includes breakfast for two, a bottle of wine and a bath hamper pack! It was a wonderful 3 nights and the hosts were splendid to meet. I had some me time exploring the town and beaches but also nestled in the living room to a great movie collection and just had one of those nights we all appreciate.
Quest Newcastle West was a gorgeous stay and actually one of my favorite towns I visited on this 2 month roadtrip. Quest offers you complete apartment style living for my friends who work remote, like to cook at home when traveling and want to still be near everything. There is even parking here to make your life easier! Newcastle is SICK! I loved this town and If I could, I’d easily move here. This town has so much going for it and I can truly see how upcoming it is. If you are investing in property, I can put money on it, that Newcastle would be a great investment and an incredibly beautiful place to live.
Turon Gates was luxury and off grid living that I just adored. From kayaking to horseback riding, to jacuzzi with views of the Blue Mountains and their own personally made wine. Hikes and the most incredible sunrises and sunsets. One day it even rained and the storm was just a thrill to watch from the indoor fireplace at this incredible build. Outdoor grill, fireplace, hammock, and SO much more all around you. It is a great family business to support and they welcome you as if their home is yours at check in til check out. They have options for every budget too, so you can go from camping to glamping to a full on luxury stay. They have been doing this all their life to the point that the Kookaburra Bird even eats out of the owners hand. The on site doggo chief is the sweetest welcome as well. I wish I could have stayed longer but I know I will be back.
Tawillah Milton Luxury Retreat is an adults-only farm stay located in such a small quaint town called Milton in NSW. It had a beautiful shower and bath and a cozy bedroom with fire and views overlooking the farm with cows, alpaca and their cute fluffy puppies. Tons of outdoor games to play with your partner and an outdoor fire pit that I WISH I got to use but the weather was fabulous so It wasn’t needed. This homestay was similar to a health retreat with the robes, slippers, bath salts, music speakers and privacy. I will say, the dag in me thrived when I pulled my car into the garage and found the old school Pinball machine - which was Star Wars themed - I played this multiple times per day!
Tathra Beach House was located RIGHT across the street from the beach! And a stunning beach at that. Fantastic coffee right at the entrance, at Salt Cafe, a full balcony overlooking the ocean and a kitchen inside your beach house. Tathra Beach House was centrally located, offered a pool and jacuzzi as well as very kind staff that circled all the things on the map that were MUST SEE’S!! The staff even helped me set up my goal to kayak the Pambula River and booked me with an incredible company, Navigate Expeditions. This Expedition company does whale watching and mountain biking tours as well! This coastline is unreal. One of the coolest spots was Kianinny Bay for a snorkel in hopes of seeing the rays. Wallagoot Gap was also very unique! You can’t go wrong with an exploration day here.
Currajong Retreat was so incredible, from the moment I opened up all the gates to drive into this farm oasis - I just knew it was going to be a unique stay. The highlight, as you can tell in all my videos and photos was the teenage goat feeding. These little ones were such a JOY to be around. After feeding them and having home made breakfast and dinners delivered to my safari tent, to bathing in the river, picnicking for sunset and having gorgeous cocktails in the outdoor private bath — I’d say I felt I wanted to open a goat farm up immediately. The family business allowed me to get close to the family who run this gorgeous place daily and to have a truer outlook on all things Currajong. This is more remote, I suggest truly immersing while here and not leaving the retreat! You can go to the beach anytime ;)!
Kestrel Nest Eco-Hut is as OFF-GRID and OFF-LINE as my trip got! This beautiful stay has actually placed in the NSW Tourism Awards for Ecotourism in 2023. It is is so homey with such classic small details, a beautiful outdoor bath to bask in the serenity and peace around you, a big river to play in just a walk through butterflies away and enough stars that the sky will be lit up in the night. They really focused on detail here, from my fridge having lamb, veg, eggs all from their farm and garden to books everywhere, picnic basket, hammock, all windows and doors can even be open with screens. It is heavenly with the wrap around porch and everything you need to be in peace with no cell reception or anyone near you for miles.
Wamoon Retreat has 3 available spaces, ALL COZY and luxurious! 5 minute drive from a very gorgeous national park, Wilsons Promontory, which is the southernmost tip of mainland AUS. This park was filled with memories, from hiking Mount Oberon for gorgeous panoramic views, seeing my first wombat and emu, and even hiked up to the Big Drift (aka their dunes). I’d list a few beaches but as you drive through this national park every single stop is labeled for you and I found bliss in each beach. All very similar and beautiful with white sand and big rock formations. For those rainy days - there are places that are perfect like Gurneys Cider and Waratah Hills Vineyard. Prepack any groceries though because it can be a little pricey in towns small market. Other than that you are set for an adventure!
I was lucky enough to stay at Brady Hotels while in Melbourne and experienced 2 of their many locations: Jones and Hardware Lane. Both stunning, with the kindest hospitality and right smack in the mix. I didn’t once need my car, as the metro and all things food, drink, art and fun steps away. I was also here during holiday season and they did not disappoint by making it feel season festive in the Lobby! I even came with so much luggage that the concierge took all my bags up to my room while I parked in their parking garage. EPIC. I’ll be back to Melbourne and there is no place I’d rather stay.
A must visit for all my foodies in Melbourne: ALT
SPA SPA SPA. Literally felt like a place that If I could, I’d treat myself to a Lon Retreat once a month. Their Spa is incredible and the stay in general is 10/10. I booked the Solo Slow Package which included 1 night for 1 person, you receive a small gift, farm sourced breakfast and a home style meal that you heat yourself when you’d like to have dinner. Then you have a 60 minute massage along with a 30 minute facial, a gorgeous farm sourced grazing platter post spa treatment and unlimited access to their heated mineral pool and hot soak bath as well as walking access to a beach and a few beautiful walk paths. I didn’t take off my robe or slippers the entire stay. I just soaked into the relaxation this retreat provides. This may have been one of my favorite spas I have yet to go to.
Well I do wish I had more photos to showcase this adorable cottage but your girls drone and camera broke the same day because of wind. But I have all good to say about this family and the cottage they created on their farm. This Is also write in the Macedon and near lots of gorgeous hikes. There is plenty of animal food outside for you to shake and they’ll come running with smiles eating out of your hand. This is a small cottage with a small kitchen and only comes with what you need, a very relaxed space that in the end was filled with a night of Sequence and dancing for me even whilst losing 10K of equipment - so that goes to show this space is incredible.
So I was surprised by mother natures choices to end up in Adelaide and was stunned by this angel who offered me a 1 night stay at this absolute LUXE apartment stay. WOW WOW WOW. If I could design myself a home - this would be it. You couldn’t get me out of the kitchen. If you need to photograph a kitchen show- boom here you go. Besides that there was a fantastic Moroccan restaurant right around the corner and it was a lovely short stay that I wish would have been much longer!
The Inkwell was like I walked right into my roots of Pennsylvania, USA. It had the charm that I see in many homes all through Philadelphia and she focused in on the detail. Every little decor matched her aesthetic and the basement bedroom was dark and perfect for a good night sleep, with excellent coffee options in the morning, private parking area, drinks ready to be made and Adelaide ready to be seen. Another quick stay that I wished lasted longer.
Wine tasting is a MUST when visiting Adelaide!
You can go north and visit the Barossa Valley
or south to visit the McLaren Vale… I did both!
MUST STOPS IMO:
Barossa Valley: Maggies Beer Farm, David Franz, Yalumba, Seppeltsfield
Mclaren Vale: Hugh Hamilton, Down The Rabbit Hole (roasted potatoes were bomb)
Victor Harbor was a charming town and this beautiful home was at a perfect location to everything. It had a stunning view and all natural light with a huge tub outside on the deck. It had everything wellness - including a massage service that comes right to your door! A perfect place above the home for yoga or meditation in the trees and a loft style bedroom that you can watch the sunrise and set right from the comfort of your bed. It has an awesome projection screen to enjoy the perfect movie night with your loved ones - I loved every piece of this gorgeous home.
Time to catch the SeaLink to Kangaroo Island…
every hour, book in advance, can check anytime for opening slots (which they open up often because if 1 big cattle truck cancels then tons of car spots open) this ferry is about 1 hour and EASY to navigate.
Ecopia Retreat is an experience, not a place to just stay. Unlike anywhere on the Kangaroo Island, Ecopia is a registered wildlife sanctuary with an abundance of Kangaroos, Echidnas, Goanas, wallabies, Koalas and more. They utilize rainwater only and are truly eco in every way. They have incredible food packages and would be a place for a solo trip, a romantic trip, or even a place to bring the family. Location is completely central to the island and I spent 4 nights here that I will never forget. I think I wandered about the property in my robe every single sunset just looking for echidnas with a child-like smile.
NEXT UP… TASMANIA. You can take the ferry to Tasmania, but I chose to save myself some time and fly! There are direct flights from many parts of AUS but for this particular roadtrip, I flew from Melbourne and rented a car at Safe Car Rentals, a local family owned car rental business at Hobart. The ferry is overnight and you don’t want to waste a single second when exploring the beauty of this must visit island- Tasmania!
The Pearl was an absolute gorgeous beachfront property that Is extremely abundant in space, it sleeps 10 and is literally only a 10 second walk to a gorgeous white sand beach. The Pearl is set up to HOST! When I arrived I wanted to call up all my girlfriends and bring them here. It would be PERFECT for a bachelorette party or a big family reunion, maybe even that holiday that all your friends are dying to go on and want to go together! Escape the hustle and bustle and find yourself just 12m from Port Arthur and 80m from Hobart. Nestle into this gorgeous lay out of games, open kitchen with everything to make big dishes, charcuteries, yummy cocktails and more, all the needs for water sports, a beautiful bath, outdoor shower, and more - you could find me paddle boarding the water every morning as the water was flat as glass.
MUST DOS & SEES:
CAPE HAUY TRAILHEAD
DUNALLEY BAY DISTILLERY TASTING HUT
TESSELLATED PAVEMENT
AND MY FAVORITE: BONORONG WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary
Piermont was stunning and had a beautiful location, active amenities, and a delicious restaurant. I loved the bikes, kayaks, the tennis court, pool and beautiful beaches that were prime shell beaches! All while across the ocean from the Freycinet National Park - so stunning views and all drivable from the hikes, wineries, and the boutique town. The unique builds you can stay in were from the cottages from the beginning of Piermont all the way to the new age modern builds, It is really charming that they are continuing to keep all styles of stays for everyone to enjoy the history of the retreat. I loved this gorgeous new build, and would be wonderful to bring the whole family with 3 bedrooms! I loved the bath tub and the sliding glass windows that allowed the entire downstairs to be open! On Sundays, since the restaurant is closed, you can order a large and incredible charcuterie for delivery to your door!
Truly named after exactly what it is. A small camp in the middle of nowhere. I loved this spot so much. It had tons of hikes and waterfalls around as well as a beautiful bath with a huge thing of salts just waiting for you to dip in. The fire place inside was cozy but the fireplace outside was perfect for cooking up some delicious steaks and S’mores! The bed was a perfect viewing spot for sunset and sunrise.
The Keep was special. This was a very long drive out to the middle of absolutely nowhere - Not a single property in sight when you climb this hill, you can see 360 views of just nature and water around you. There are animals and you can just sit in silence and listen to them sing together. There Is a gorgeous bath outside behind big boulders with all these gorgeous flowers surrounding it. The inside is a 3 story stay - the first floor being the garage, the second being the bedroom, reading nook, bath and the top floor being a beautiful living space with open kitchen and all natural light. You cannot go wrong with this unique stay. There were 3 walks they pathed out for you on the property that you could literally go in the nude to do (believe me, I did!) because no one is in sight - so WHY NOT!
In the end, Tasmania and Kangaroo Island were by far my favorite places to explore whilst in Australia. There was so much culture, beauty, animal life, views, gorgeous beaches to stunning mountains. I would easily go visit Kangaroo Island and Tasmania again in a heartbeat. I Think If you go to Australia you go visit a lot of the same places - for example the big cities, like, Sydney and Brisbane. But to truly immerse in what I feel is a playground of a country, I highly suggest you visit some of the islands and experience more of the off grid towns and farms. Explore the road less traveled and if you do happen to stumble upon any of the incredible places I visited, Let me know! I’d love to have you say hello to all the incredible people I met on my journey and for you to tell me about any unique experiences you had when following along my guide! I will try to include some tips below that would have helped me with my trip and small things I wish I knew as an American living in Australia.
